Here Is An Entertaining Halloween Project For Kids - Wild Spiders
Here is one of my favorite Halloween crafts for kids. It's swift and simple, can be done with a crowd if needed, and is an excellent way to exercise cutting and fine motor skills with younger kids. Older kids can let their creative thoughts take over and create some really crazy Halloween spiders!
What you'll need:
Black construction paper
Scissors
Glue or sticky-tape
Googly eyes (optional) or scraps of paper and pens
Instructions:
Cut a rectangle of construction paper approximately 3 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Fold the short side over about an inch to produce a crease, and then open it up again.
Turn the paper so that the crease is horizontal, and cut the paper in 7 organized lines up to the crease making eight spider's legs. With younger children, draw in the lines for them to repeat cutting on. For older children, demonstrate to them how to make the first cut in the center, dividing the space below the crease into 2 halves. Next show them how to divide each half once more to produce quarters, and then the quarters to make eighths. There is no need to be very accurate.
Now wrap the spider around the child's finger and secure using sticky-tape or glue. Remove the spider again and decorate - either with pieces of paper or with googly eyes. Put the spider back on the finger and curve the legs into shape or curl them around a pencil.
Variations:
Hang up the spiders! Simply cut a length of black yarn (wool) and attach inside the head of the spider using a small piece of sticky-tape.
Create smaller variations of these spiders to decorate the ends of Halloween pencils.
Wrap little spiders on straws to brighten your Halloween table! Make a number of bigger spiders and then scatter them around the table as well.
Cut an ever so small cut on both sides of the spider's head and insert a name card to turn these spiders into spooky place markers!
After the body of the spider has been made but before decorating, put a black pipe cleaner around the head of the spider making a furry effect. The overhanging end of the pipe cleaner can be curled into a hook design, that will make the spider easy to hang from shelves, doorways, and other spooky places! Attach cartoon eyes on the top of the pipe cleaner.
